Community (Youth) on Solid Ground -YSG provides a vibrant and inclusive programme of activities, support, and personal development for young people across Whalley Range and Manchester. From our flagship youth clubs to national residentials and sports festivals, we’re dedicated to helping young people grow, connect, and thrive.
Based in Whalley Range, our youth club runs dedicated junior and senior sessions for local young people. Through a wide-ranging programme of activities, we aim to build confidence, life skills, and friendships in a safe and supportive environment.
Activities include:
Health & fitness sessions
Educational support and mentoring
Football training and team games
Arts & crafts
Boxing and self-defence
Cookery workshops
Holiday programmes and off-site trips
We also offer exciting school holiday programmes and residential experiences across the UK. This year, our group visited Wales for water sports, quad biking, and team building.
All members are encouraged to take an active role in club life and contribute to the wider community.
Now in its 12th year, Urban Streetz is one of South Manchester’s largest youth football and mentoring projects. Every Friday evening, we welcome 60–80 young people (ages 12–18) to participate in free, fast-paced 5-a-side football tournaments.
With participants from over 17 local wards, the programme promotes:
Teamwork and sportsmanship
Mentorship through coaching and one-to-one guidance
Skills development, volunteering & training
CV building, mock interviews, and life skills workshops
Urban Streetz has engaged over 3,800 young people since launch and continues to be a space for growth, friendship, and opportunity.
Our sessions provide a fun, safe, and engaging alternative to the streets.
Activities include:
Table tennis, pool, PS5 gaming, and board games
Dodgeball, badminton, and coached sports
Movie nights and healthy eating sessions
Workshops, quizzes, and group debates
We also facilitate issue-based discussions on topics such as life, identity, culture, crime prevention, and drug awareness—giving young people a platform to be heard and to shape the services they use.
We offer a range of nationally recognised qualifications to help young people gain skills, boost employability, and take on leadership roles.

Young people are also encouraged to gain practical experience through volunteering with YSG.
Residentials are a vital part of our development programme, giving young people the opportunity to explore new environments, face challenges, and build resilience.

Edale (Peak District) and Pro Adventure (North Wales)
Activities such as abseiling, climbing, kayaking, orienteering, and archery
For many, it’s their first time away from home—an unforgettable chance to build confidence and lifelong memories.

These sessions highlight what’s possible and reinforce the power of self-belief and ambition.
Our HAF programme offers free holiday clubs and nutritious meals for eligible children and young people during the Christmas, Easter, and summer holidays.
Each club session includes:
Engaging activities such as sports, music, arts, and games
A free, nutritious meal provided daily
A safe, welcoming environment where young people can stay active, socialise, and thrive
Designed to support families during school breaks, the HAF programme ensures every child has access to food, fun, and friendship—at no cost.

Each year, YSG hosts a major football festival, bringing together over 200 young people from across Manchester. This event promotes unity, cross-cultural friendships, and community pride, alongside appearances from local officials and special guests.
In partnership with Pathways to Success, we deliver a specialist mentoring and intervention service for young people facing personal, social, or academic challenges.
Our personalised one-to-one approach includes:
Comprehensive referral and assessment
Mentor pairing based on individual needs and aspirations
Support from trained mentors, school staff, and counsellors
Outreach in schools and onsite sessions at our Manchester base
Designed for Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4) students, our structured, age-appropriate interventions aim to boost resilience, engagement, and long-term progress.
At Pathways to Success (PTS), building on the proven experience and community impact of Youth on Solid Ground (YOSG), we provide high-quality, community-based short breaks for disabled children and young people across Manchester. Drawing on more than 15 years of delivering commissioned youth services, youth and play provision, alternative provision (AP), mentoring, sports, and inclusive community programmes, our experienced team creates safe, engaging and person-centred opportunities that enable children and young people to thrive while providing valuable respite for parents and carers.
Based at our purpose-built community hub in a beautiful park setting, we offer a wide range of inclusive activities designed around each child's interests, strengths and support needs. These include multi-sports, supervised gym sessions, mentoring, creative play, life skills, health and wellbeing activities, nature walks, outdoor learning, community access, and exciting trips and outings. Every short break is planned to promote confidence, independence, resilience, communication, social skills and positive emotional wellbeing in a safe, nurturing and supportive environment.
Our highly trained team of youth workers, mentors and support staff are committed to delivering outstanding care and meaningful experiences. We work closely with children, young people, families, schools, social care professionals and partner organisations to ensure every child receives personalised support that helps them achieve positive outcomes and reach their full potential.
