What we do

Community on Solid Ground is an active and effective charity that uses sports, education, training, social activities, and mentoring to empower young people to increase their confidence, motivation, skills, employability and quality of life.
All of CSG’s work is underpinned by the determination to improve the quality of life in the local community, addressing four key indicators:

Health and Wellbeing

CSG combats health issues, such as adolescent depression and obesity, by increasing regular participation in sports activities. By offering healthy eating and cooking workshops and debates on lifestyle choices, we aim to instil positive behaviour leading to long-term healthy lifestyles for our service users.

Education, Employment and Training

CSG is committed to securing volunteer opportunities, work experience and employment for participants in sports and/or other sectors, by training young people in sports coaching, mentorship and other related fields. We communicate with our partners and other local organisations to offer relevant opportunities and we have an up-to-date knowledge of available apprenticeships. Some of our services are tailored for young people not in education, employment or training, and those with learning difficulties.

Crime Reduction

CSG uses formal and informal education to increase knowledge and awareness of crime and anti-social behaviour, the effects they have and the risks involved, so that our service users can make informed decisions about crime. The organisation also uses sports and training as a means to engage young people at risk to participate in constructive and positive activity. CSG works in co-operation with strategic partners city-wide, ensuring our projects accord with the city authority’s strategy for tackling crime.

Community Cohesion

CSG uses individual and group mentorship, discussions and debates to develop and enhance social responsibility, moral responsibility, encourage community cohesion, and to tackle issues such as racism and bullying, and other forms of discrimination. We work with local schools, councils and police to target those most in need, and to ensure that our services remain effective at improving community cohesion in the area.

Mission Statement

Our chief aim is to help support the community to participate in activities to develop integration, community cohesion and social inclusion. We promote the health and wellbeing of all community members through active participation and engage all sections of the community, including ‘hard-to-reach’ young people. We use educational, social, and sports activities to help them choose positive lifestyles, enable them to be more resilient in order to achieve their full potential and positively contribute to the community as mature and responsible individuals, for the benefit of the whole community.
